The Nest; A Beginner's Guide to Rainbow Serpent's Safe Space


The Nest is a comfortable and welcoming space, set up to provide social support to people experiencing difficulties at Rainbow Serpent Festival with a particular focus on Gender-Based Violence and Trans-inclusivity.

If you have ever wondered what happens within The Nest, what the service is capable of and what reporting through The Nest looks like... Come to 'The Nest: A beginners guide to Rainbow Serpents Safe space' and Mel will take you through everything Rainbow Serpent is doing to respond to gender-based violence including sexual assault, family violence and transphobia.

Mel Pearson is Rainbow Serpent Festival's Social Services Manager as well as being an Emergency Nurse at a large Victorian trauma centre.

Mel Has worked at Rainbow Serpent Festival since 2005 and in the Social Services Manager role since its inception in 2016, which lead to the creation of The Nest.

Mel has a particular interest in responding to sexual assault, family violence, and trans and gender diversity inclusivity - three areas she is passionate about, both in the festival and hospital setting.
